To obtain a salesperson license, the following is required:

1.  Completion of a Mississippi Real Estate Commission approved pre-licensing program. A complete list of statutory requirements can be found by visiting the Mississippi Real Estate Commission’s web site, at www.mrec.state.ms.us. For your convenience that document can be downloaded here as well. This PDF document is current as of 7/19.

A.  Available through the REALTOR® Institute in both classroom and online formats. The REALTOR® Institute is run by the Mississippi Association of REALTORS® and more information and on-line registration can be found at their web site, www.msrealtors.org

B.  Available through a State College or University, which would include classes taken on campus or as a home study course.  Additional information can be found at the web site for the University of Southern Mississippi (www.USM.edu) or your preferred college or university.

C.  Available through other “schools” that may be approved to teach real estate pre-licensing courses. Contact the Mississippi Real Estate Commission for more information.

2.  Pass the state licensing exam administered by the Mississippi Real Estate Commission.

3.  Within twelve months of being issued the salesperson's license, complete the 30-hour, mandatory post-license course. Available through the REALTOR® Institute, in online and classroom formats.  For additional sources of the post-licensing course(s), check with the Mississippi Association of REALTORS®.

Persons with an out-of-state real estate license may be eligible to receive a Mississippi real estate license simply because they already have a license in another state.  Some states’ licensees may have to take the Mississippi exam, while others may only have to apply and show good standing in the other state.  Check with the Mississippi Real Estate Commission for details.

NOTE:  The Mississippi Real Estate Commission (MREC) is the state agency that regulates the activities of real estate licensees. (It is also the regulatory agency for the state’s appraisers and home inspectors.) The REALTOR® Institute is a real estate school, owned by the Mississippi Association of Realtors® (MAR) that offers coursework for obtaining or renewing a license.
